Game Profile

Guild 2, The

Developer: 4Head Studios
Publisher: Aspyr Media

Release Date: 06/30/2006

ESRB: RP

Genre: simulation
Setting: medieval

Described as the “ultimate medieval dynasty sim,” in The Guild 2 you can fill many roles in 15th century Europe. Become a patron, a craftsman, or even the Tony Soprano of the Middle Ages!

In The Guild 2, you play a member of medieval society. You choose how you want to play, and you can direct the game in many different ways. For example, you can follow certain career paths, gain political influence, or even marry well in order to further your own personal dynasty. The social aspect of the game is very important to consider as you make your way in the world. Your skill sets and even your religion will affect people’s opinion of you. The game will even actively work against you if you have managed to gain a negative reputation.

The Guild 2 is the sequel to Europa 1400 – The Guild, which was very successful, especially in the European market. The game was completely rebuilt for the sequel, and the developers are adding features to make the game more appealing to the US market as well. The Guild 2 will feature a simpler, more intuitive interface with context sensitive menus. Another new feature is a tutorial, which you can skip if you want (always one of my first questions).

In addition to freeform and campaign modes for the single player game, The Guild 2 will feature an online multiplayer mode that allows PvP, team versus team, or cooperative gameplay. Each player will have an objective, but you won’t know what your team members are trying to accomplish. The multiplayer game will take 45 minutes to an hour to complete, so it’s an ideal multiplayer situation for casual gamers who don’t have 3 or 4 hours to spend on a campaign.

The Guild 2 is due out in Fall 2006 for PC.

About the Author, Laura McMasters (A.K.A Spygeek)

I'm a girl geek. I've been playing games ever since my brother brought home the C64.

Even so, I'm really a casual gamer. I enjoy sim games because I get to build or make things, and on MMORPGs I usually have 10 or more characters going at one time so that I can experiment with every possible combination. I like thinking while I'm gaming, which explains my enduring love for text adventures, and my refusal to ever play an FPS.
