E3 Preview: Aggression Europe 1914

Aggression: Europe 1914

Developer: Lesta Studios
Publisher: Buka Entertainment

Release Date: 9/1/2007

ESRB: RP

Genre: strategy
Setting: WWI
This is an RTS that starts back near the beginning of WWI in Europe and runs through 1945. There are four playable nations, Germany, France, Russia and England. Each of the nations will have their own advantages and disadvantages in the game. This is your chance to re-write history and decide for yourself the outcome of the War to End All Wars.

The game map is a Risk-like map where you will maneuver your units strategically into various zones to take control of not only the land but also the resources available there. In this strategic mode you will be able to manage your resources, do R&D and get involved in the political climate of the era. Make and break treaties and try to conquer all of Europe. Should you move into an occupied zone, you will then go into the tactical mode where you will be able to control your units and direct their actions through the battle.

The development of technology for your nation is completely under your control so you could theoretically have access to nuclear weapons earlier than what occurred in history.

What Buka had available for us to see at E3 was not a complete version of the game but we did get to see an example of units in combat. It was quite impressive and the entire environment, so far, was destructible. It was quite fun to watch the buildings explode from artillery fire. And nukes made bright white flashes and knocked down everything in a wide radius.

The game is scheduled for release for some time in 2007, so hopefully we will be seeing a playable demo of it in the next 6 months or so and will have a chance to see more of the game.

I've been gaming since the days of the original TSR D&D and have grown up playing just about every PnP RPG created. Eventually with the age of computers, I started getting into RTS and military strategy games. And then came the MMORPG Asherons Call which changed my computer gaming forever. These days when i'm not gaming I'm working with the Los Padre's Council BSA and my son's Cub Pack - when not conquering the virtual world.
