Reaktor is a fast paced puzzle game by Totalgaming.net.

I’m not generally a fan of puzzle themed games, but I enjoyed Reaktor. It took a bit to get into it though.

The controls took a moment to get into, but once you get the feel of guiding the bar toggle with your mouse things start to fall into place. The difficulty ramps up slowly, but once you’ve got a rhythm started you will quickly hit the higher difficulty, where the fun really starts. Playing on the brink of disaster, for as long as you can maintain it, is where this game really starts to shine.

There are bonuses and special items, but really most of the play falls to the simple rubric of stacking bars with similar colored bars until you have enough to make them clear. It sounds simple, but the layout and the way the bars build up can be fairly complicated. Certainly the game moves at a fast enough clip that it never seems over simple.

If the game has a low point, it would have to be sound. The gameplay sounds are solid enough, but beyond that there really isn’t much to it. The music, however, is both unvaried and pretty simple. If you play much of the game, you will likely find yourself listening to MP3s while you play.

I thoroughly enjoyed playing through Reaktor. If you are a fan of the puzzle game genre, this is a solid entrant.
