Things are rarely ever as they may seem. I have heard that many times in my life and it surely applies to this game. Barely a minute into this science fiction fantasy shooter, the cute little robots from what I thought would be a kid’s game started cursing like sailors. That was not the only surprise as this game was actually pretty fun with some intense fire fights and action in a fairly expansive environment. You play the title character, a unique robot named Glitch who must help a rag tag group of droids fight a rebellion against the evil Mil Bots led by the dastardly General Corrosive. This civil war on the droid planet with its industrial environments provides a great story setting for some pretty high paced action. The smaller droid bots are struggling to overthrow the big bad and totally tough Mil Bots who have taken over the planet. The run up shows old film that made me think of the reels from the Fall Out series. It was cool to see this except in the robot fantasy world.
The game does a good job of providing in game tutorials to get you up to speed with the controls and Glitch’s abilities. You quickly find that what makes Glitch so unique is his ability to remove his arms and attach some pretty cool weapons making him quite the lethal little droid. This third person shooter gives you a variety of missions to complete each with varied checkpoints to pass which is nice as you will die often as the game is definitely not a cakewalk. The ability to restart from these checkpoints will help you remain sane and interested in finishing the game.
The action in the game is like I said intense as the weaponry is really powerful. From laser cannons to chain guns, you will have access to enough fire power to take down the best that the Mil Bots can throw at you. Within all this action is a decent storyline that keeps you interested and wanting to continue the game. The Mil Bots are tough and smart opponents who also have the added knack of dying in creative and over the top ways.
The environments are fairly detailed and clearly mean to give you the look and feel of an industrial world that has been ravaged by war. I like the fact that the environments are varied and are done in a way that you can use them strategically in combat for cover, etc. The sound is solid and voice acting is entertaining. Again, there is significant cursing in the game and I would recommend parents to use good judgment if you have small children around.
I really found this game to be a lot of fun. The action is quick paced and story is good. The game does not have much replay ability but this would definitely be a solid rental if you are looking for something different to play when it comes to shooter games.
