LET’S ROCK!

It’s been a week since the world has heard from the small Eastern European kingdom of Villtania. As scatterd refugee reports surface, the world learns of monstrous devastation and biogeocenosis experiments summoned by Raimond, Villtania’s leading sorcerer. The once beautiful Villtanian country side now runs red with the blood of its people. The United Nations declares an international emergency and offers a huge reward to any hot-shot mercenaries brave enough to restore order to Villtania. Warriors from around the world, some for the sake of justice, others for money, now gather on the Villtanian battlefield. A new war has begun.

Ok, so now you know why you are here. You are that hero, the one who has come to search out the evil that infests the land and fight your way to the villain who is slaughtering innocent villagers.

Guilty Gear Judgment is a side-scrolling combat game. Under the definition for button-mashing mayhem games, you will see a picture of the Guilty Gear Judgment cover. This game takes no skill or tactical knowledge. Though it does take some skill at repeatedly hitting the same button on your PSP as quick as your little piggies can.

This is not to say that the game is not any fun to play. Just that if you are looking for something that has some depth to it or a game that will challenge your intellect this is not the game for you. If your looking for some mindless arcade action you’ve come to the right place.

Now, to be fair to the game, there are a large number of characters that you can play, and each one has a number of special moves that he/she can do. These moves require that you hit certain button combinations to accomplish. The game itself does not change with the character that you are playing, just the characters avatar and the abilities. They all have the same challenges to overcome. And some of the characters do not become available until after you have completed the game using those that are initially available.

The graphics are done up in a comic book style with the scrolling background. The critters that you will be facing are not highly detailed though most of them look pretty cool.

Guilty Gear Judgment is not the only game on the disk, you also get Guilty Gear X2 Reload. Which is an arcade style fighting game. Here you will pitch your skills against any of the various Guilty Gear characters.

Unlike Judgment, X2 Reload takes some skill to play as you have a number of different moves that you will need to master in order to defeat your opponents. And you will have to learn which moves work best against each opponent.

All in all Guilty Gear for the PSP will give you some good mindless entertainment value that will keep you busy while your standing in line at the bank. Just make sure not to get to excited and pop the guy in front of you in the head with your PSP as you shadow box with your virtual opponents.

The game is rated T which seems appropriate, though you may want to keep it away from your kids if they get over stimulated by the fast-paced combat games and have to recreate every move after they finish playing.

About the Author, Carl Pabst, Jr. (A.K.A DemiUrgoss)

I've been gaming since the days of the original TSR D&D and have grown up playing just about every PnP RPG created. Eventually with the age of computers, I started getting into RTS and military strategy games. And then came the MMORPG Asherons Call which changed my computer gaming forever. These days when i'm not gaming I'm working with the Los Padre's Council BSA and my son's Cub Pack - when not conquering the virtual world.
