Dirt bikes, ATVs, super bikes, ice cream trucks and the devil? What kinda game is this you ask? A very weird one to say the least. Crusty Demons places you as one of the five members of the Crusty Demons extreme motocross athletes. When the entire group is about to die after attempting an extreme stunt the devil intervenes, offers them the chance to become immortal if they give him their souls, and oh boy does it get interesting after that.

The boys do in fact become immortal and the devil even gave them the chance to win their souls back. The Crusty’s will have to travel around the world and compete in a “tour of destruction” for the devil’s amusement while completing the devil’s checklist. Once they finish the checklist they get to race the devil for their souls. Sounds easy huh? No, not really.

Crusty Demons is a new take on the motocross games that have been hitting game consoles for a few years now. The game is indeed fun but it certainly has its drawbacks. First, the game’s controls can be a pain to learn. It took me a good hour or more of trying to finally get past the tutorial (not a good sign in any game). The trick controls were a bit confusing to me, then again I’ve never been much for button mashing combo games (and this game is just that).

There are also something called Devil Points but I have yet to figure out exactly what the point of these things are. I’ve even gone so far as to dig into the instruction manual and it doesn’t even mention them. What good are they if I can’t find a use for them?

The game is indeed fun when it comes down to it. A nice touch is since the Crusty Demons signed away their souls to the devil they can’t die. They can break nearly every bone in their body but they can’t die. This means you never have to start a level over from the beginning. If you crash in the middle of a trick you can try it again right away. Plus watching your rider splat to the ground is just great fun.

The graphics are actually pretty good in this game, so good in fact that I’m rather impressed with them. Everything is very visible and there are plenty of breakable items within the game world making it even more fun to crash and bash. The HUD is also very simple and easy to understand (with the exception of those bloody Devil Points).

All in all I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to buy this game. I don’t think this game is awful by any means it’s just not my style. Maybe I’m just not a fan of motocross games. Either way my suggestion is if you like motocross go pick it up, you might enjoy it more than I did.
