Ok, I’m a fan of pro wrestling so naturally I’m generally interested in things staring former WWE superstar The Rock. So when I heard he was the main star of a new video game called Spyhunter: Nowhere To Run, I was intrigued. I figured if The Rock wanted to attach his name to it then it had to be good. Well….lets just say my assumptions were wrong.

Spyhunter: Nowhere To Run is the latest take on a classic game series. However, it is far from the best take. There are lots of bad things about this game, so let's get down to business. First of all, the storyline starts midstream which leaves you asking a bunch of questions. To say I was confused when starting the game would be a bit of an understatement.

However, after beating the game I did manage to figure out what was going on, sorta. You start the game off trying running from Nostra. In your possession are the inner workings to the Interceptor, a really cool spy car type thing. Also running from Nostra is the young lady who developed the car. Well by the end of the level you are left lying on your back while Nostra takes the Interceptor.

At this point you begin your chase of Nostra and the Interceptor. You later find out that the young lady who designed the Interceptor actually jumped ship and had been working for them. Well, she claims she was working under cover. Whatever, needless to say the storyline needed improvement.

This is where the game really begins to stink even worse. The further into the game you get the harder it is for you to understand the controls. The game has basically has two parts, driving the car and shooting it out on foot. The driving part isn’t so tough but the Interceptor’s weapons can be a bit confusing. It took me all the way to the end of the game to realize the B button activated spikes that came out of the rims. Oh yeah, it also shoots rockets, drops oil slicks and a bunch more stuff that escapes me at the moment.

As far as the controls for the FPS part of the game goes, those are even worse. The targeting system took me forever to get the hang of not to mention the camera angles were awful. If you got backed into a corner with a lot of enemies around you may as well restart the level because your gonna be dead shortly.

I also found myself out of ammo on a multiple occasions in the game, which can really be a pain when surrounded by enemies. I wish the makers of the game had put a little more thought into ammo and weapon locations in this game.

Graphic wise this game is average at best. Graphics during game play and graphics during cut scenes are exactly the same, making the cut scenes just as boring as the game play. Why they couldn’t dish out a little more for a graphics upgrade is beyond me, but maybe that’s why I just review games instead of make them.

On the plus side (which is very small I might add) the audio is very good. The guns sound really good, each gun having a distinct sound which matches the type of gun you’re using. Also on the plus side once I got started with the game I wanted to finish it. I’m not sure if it was out of spite for my distaste for the game or actual intrigue for the storyline, but the fact remains I was interested enough to finish it. That has got to count for something.

Final verdict? Don’t bother going anywhere near this game. It lacks everything that defines a good game. Graphics, storyline, controls they all stink. My suggestion to you is to look around and read other reviews for a good shooter or a good racing game, but not try to mix the two. And whatever you do stay away from this game. Trust me, you’ll be better off without it.
