It’s back to the reef in this cute little adorable game about fish – and we’re not talking about Nemo. It’s your job to eat or be eaten in this arcade action game, survive and take on bigger challenges, as well as hunt down the ultimate bad fish who’s been terrorizing the oceans below. Which makes perfect sense for a game called Feeding Frenzy 2.

Control is amazingly simple, just move your mouse and your fish will respond. Left click “dashes” you, allowing you to have a burst of speed, while right click gives you the ability (when earned) to suck in a mouthful of water and anything that’s in front of you – it’s great for sucking down small schools of fish.

The game is simple, use your fish. You start out small, so you’ll have to avoid some of the bigger fish out there, and eat until you grow. As you grow larger you’ll be able to snack on some of the bigger fish that used to hunt you. Eventually, depending on the stage you're on, you’ll be able to control a great white shark and munch on pretty much anything that moves.

There’s more then just fish to worry about. There’s jellyfish that can stun you for a few seconds when you run across them, poisonous minnows that can confuse you and reverse your controls, and the ever dreaded barracuda that comes and goes, eating what ever is in front of it.

Introduced in Feeding Frenzy 2 is the ability to jump out of the water and snag insects hovering above the water. There’s balloons carrying bonus items and for those of you like minded, you can pull some decidedly un-fish like stunts to gain bonus points. Just watch out for the pelican, he seems to like fish just a little too much…

Added into this mess of fish are several things that will help you out or keep you on your toes, bonuses that include super speed, the ability to stun everything, the “shrinker” that allows you to shrink anything bigger than you to edible size and, my personal favorite, the “school”, an ability that summons a baitfish to your side to take the hit for you when you get just a little bit to close. There are also stars that you can collect for points, pearls that give you points, the black ones give you a size increase, and a few other assorted goodies floating around.

Every now and again, you’ll find bonus stages. These have you eating different types of items, these stages are usually enemy free and it’s a fish for all while you zip across the board in search of the required treat. You can collect a special powerup here – a clock that gives you an additional three seconds to the bonus round. These pop up every few seconds and can be used to extend the bonus round for quite some time. Complete your task and you’ll get a bonus to your score.

The other things you need to finish are the boss stages, though these won’t show up until later levels. Your goal here is to chase down and find the bad fish. Once you do find him, you’ll use each of the stage fish to fight and defeat the bad fish on a series of successive levels. Win the day against the bad fish and you’ll unlock a special mode.

I enjoyed this game quite a bit, for those of you with kid’s it’s a great game, as there is practically no violence in the game and it’s easy enough that us adults can win, but difficult enough that the kids won’t get bored easily. With 60+ stages of swimming fun it’s unlikely that they’ll put it down anytime soon. All in all it’s a gem of a game to play while you await the real fishing season to open.

About the Author, Marc (A.K.A Biggs)

Got started in the gaming industry with the beta for Asheron’s call. From there I’ve pretty much done a huge amount of beta’s for the industry. I’ve beta’d games, worked in customer service for games – been a game cop (kinda like a higher level gm…), written articals for games, about games, hint’s and tips for games.

It’s probably pretty safe to say that I have either beta’d or played every MMRPG game that has come out onto the market since 1999 – And I’ve played muds, moo’s and mush’s as well. My likes about the game industry. Oh so much creativity! So little time. Dev’s doing what they say they will. Hmm, What else do I like about games. Well, I do like to explore… Some dislikes. Well, I really, really hate buggy games. Especailly buggy games that are actually really interesting. There’s nothing worse then having this super-hyped game that’s groundbreaking in many new ways – only to have it unplayable due to stupid little bugs that should have been cleared up waaaay before release.
