Alien Breed 2: Assault is a new breed of gaming. I will admit I had never heard of this game before, but I love to try new games. This is by far one game I was very pleased to have played. I will also admit I have never in my life been a fan of top-down shooters, but again Alien Breed 2 made me a believer.
I love aliens — everything about them — and Alien Breed 2 filled that giant alien-killing void in my life. Aliens are pretty much everywhere you could think of. They seemed to have come out at the times when I am at my weakest, too. I just got done killing these tiny little ones, and I think the worst is over, and I can go about my business and be fine with the world. Of course, my thriller videogame knowledge seemed to have skipped somewhere, and I should have guessed *BOOM* even more little ones making me jump. It is one thing to see it first- or third-person, but when you’re in a top-down shooter, the atmosphere is very different.
I had no beef whatsoever with any of the mechanics in this brilliant game. I really applaud Team17 Software for its efforts and making me a fan of its top-down shooter. I am a very picky person when it comes to gaming, and again, my hat is off to you guys! I absolutely loved the controls; they made me feel like I was playing a first-person shooter and made it easy and fun to learn. Snapping to your target is very quick. I never had any problems when I found myself overrun. Although, sometimes I was not fast enough, which is honestly perfect. I don’t want to be invincible with my ultra awesome mouse skills; I want to die a horrible death because I may be too good.
Alien Breed 2 utilizes the awesome power of the Unreal Engine, making it look insanely realistic and believable. There was quite a few times in which I thought I was there in the game taking on these aliens, making it that much better. It is not very often a game of this style can come across as believable. The sounds of the game were great as well. I put on my Turtle Beach headsets — which are now broke because I got a little angry at one of the bosses — so I could pick up the true value of the environment, and I was in awe. Every detail when firing your weapon, to the very footsteps of the enemies, were great.
All-in-all, Alien Breed 2 is a great game in itself. Is it safe to say that the once-popular top-down shooters are dead? Ask Team17 if that is true; in my opinion, this game resurrects a once-forgotten style. Should you get this game? YES! Team17 has converted me. It was like they came to my house with Alien Breed 2 and showed me a very detailed PowerPoint presentation about what makes this game beyond great. I cannot help it; I am still excited to continue playing this game! Every aspect about it has drawn me closer in. Seriously, I am still sitting about 1 inch from my 24-inch HD monitor. Get it, love it and enjoy killing some aliens. Trust me, or else they will come to your house with a PowerPoint presentation!
