When was the last time you played a game that was inspired by real-life events? Munchies’ Lunch is a cute family logic game whose story figuratively honors the struggle and tenacity of one family to leave a country (in this case former Yugoslavia) torn by civil war. Munchies’ Lunch starts with a family that is separated in a fantasy land ruled by the evil Hungries. The main protagonist of the game is Mrs. Munchie, a mother, who with her two kids needs to traverse the game’s dangerous land to reunite her family.

The game was designed with a board game look in mind as each numbered location to which the main character advances opens a more challenging game level. Each level consists of a grid on which Mrs. Munchie must collect various fruits one move at the time, keeping an eye on the Hungries who parallel her every move, threatening to both harm her and consume the randomly placed food. This resource-gathering struggle represents a sugar-coated analogy of the struggle to survive with an artistic panache. The game is in some ways similar to older arcade games of chomping glory, although there are many differences, such as that there is no maze and the movements are more strategic and less fluid. Munchies’ Lunch at first glance seems too easy, but after a few levels, the difficulty gradually ramps up. The game’s multimedia elements are very well done and fit the overall game’s theme. The soundtrack blends in well and is not distracting during gameplay. Munchies’ Lunch is a perfect game for young children; although, adults too can easily enjoy its engaging and brain teasing levels.

Overall, Munchies’ Lunch is a fun little game. At $5.99, it is well worth the price and. in my opinion, will provide many hours of enjoyable entertainment for the entire family.

In the meantime, I have played thousands of games (all possible genres) on various systems from Atari 7800 and ZX Spectrum to Commodore 64, Commodore Amiga 500, PCs (Intel 8086 to the latest Intel and AMD chipsets), all Nintendo systems, all Sony Playstation systems, all Sega systems and finally Microsoft's XBox. Aside from gaming, I love to read (sci-fi, military history, politics, mysteries, puzzles...) and love to play chess which I do on a daily basis...
