The morning fog lifts as I pull the car into a $15 a day car lot. I look out through my windshield and see downtown L.A. coming alive, again, the way it does this time every year. Advertisements cover skyscrapers and drape across the sides of buildings beckoning to you and elicit a twinge of excitement for what’s to come at this year’s E3.
As I walk toward the South Hall, I immediately notice id Software’s RAGE mutants climbing all over the entrance. Bass begins to thump from the NOS booth out front calling to the masses filing down the streets toward the great Mecca of nerdom. Droves and droves of gaming enthusiasts fill the halls of the L.A. Convention Center clamoring on about the games they are most excited about.
Honestly, I watch the crowd pass by as I sit at the Target Gamer’s Lounge, (where I am writing this) snacking on some pretzels and think to myself, “These are ‘My’ people.” And I feel the energy swell within me, as I too begin to dream of what lay beyond the guarded doors. What electric miracles, signs and wonders shall I find just on the other side. My eyes check the clock on my laptop for the fifth time as I write this sentence. I cannot wait to get in there and see for myself.
Five minutes to go. I should get in line. More to come.
