Brothers In Arms is based on a true story. This made the game eerily realistic and will catch the gamer immersed in the action around them. The game puts you in the middle of all the important action of WWII, leading the gamer on a campaign that is as real as any first person shooter game can be. Also, with the bonus footage, it will give you real accounts and pictures of what life was back with America’s greatest generation.
It is the day before D-Day. You are a strike force, led by Sgt. Matt Baker that needs to secure strategic points in a campaign that will take you to the beaches of Normandy. To secure these points, you need to direct your fellow men (yes, tell them where to go and what to do and they will do it) to safely get the strategic points held by allied forces. The story line is incredible and true to the accounts of many men when you open up the different bonus features for doing well. The game is tactful, with loads of variety throughout the game. There are many complex situations that you have to maneuver your men using different strategies of attack and defense. With these intricate situations, the gamer can easily get caught up in a game as if they were there. Because of this, I did get aggravated when I lost some of the men in my company.
The controls were easy to work with in the beginning of the game. As the game intensified with the higher levels, it was difficult to use the controls until I got used to them. If the gamer has any competence in FPS games, then they will have no problem picking up the controls and the shooting accuracy of the game. If the gamer is a novice, they might need to practice a bit or modify their settings to suit their needs. This game is rated M, which means for mature. I feel that many novices of videogames will want to pick up this game and play, older men, just to put themselves back to a time where this campaign was important to the integrity of the world. Ubisoft did a great job in keeping the controls and game play easy to manage so any type of player can play. This might actually bridge the gap between a few generations.
The graphics of the game are extremely good. The weapons, clothing and scenic countryside are all authentically portrayed in the game. The fine detail followed along nicely in each game mode and gave the gamer an immersive feel into the game. The art looked authentic for the time frame as everything was well done. Sound was of good quality and the bonus features with pictures and first hand narrative accounts by veterans were spectacular.
Brothers In Arms is a tremendously entertaining game to play. It is not just an overnight rental, but a game you can campaign with time and time again. Along with its Xbox Live capability, makes it a quality game for any gamer’s library. There is a certain amount of replayability and you have options to replay certain missions for higher rankings. I was totally amazed at how I got caught up in all the action and excitement of the sound of bullets whizzing by my head and German soldiers in my sites. The game is an excellent FPS game that doesn’t have the high paced insanity of a kamikaze attack, but one where patience and tactfulness can lead to great victories. I would suggest this game to any person who enjoys a quality game and a history buff, especially WWII.
