I have reviewed just about every type of sports game you can play on the PlayStation2, but this is right up there with my favorites. Top Spin offers fast and fun tennis action with all the bells and whistles typically offered in a top-line sports title. If you are a tennis fan or a sports fan in general, you will appreciate the work and detail that make this game playable match after match.

The game play itself is very good, offering the player a wide range of movements and shots which can make the matches quite interesting and challenging. You can use both power and finesse in your game, which requires some strategy, especially depending on the player you may be using at the time.

The game offers you the opportunity to use current tennis stars, both male and female, like Roger Federer and Maria Sharpova. You can also create you own player and have the ability to choose everything from facial features to clothing style, and offers a great deal of flexibility in creating just the right look.

You have the option to play exhibition matches, or enter career mode, which offers you the opportunity to build your player, or a current star, over time and take them through their career. During your career, you can also obtain additional cash through corporate sponsors who want to support you.

I especially liked the game’s graphics. The players are very detailed, and the venues are done extremely well. You can play in everything from small country club courts to large arenas, depending on the stage of your career and the tournament. The game also offers realistic environments depending on the playing surface. Playing on clay offers the typical slippage and dusting, while playing on a hard surface speeds on the game. 2K Sports has also done a very nice job of adding tennis sounds, like the ball coming off the racket, the net touches, the shoes squeaks and player grunts.

Lastly, this game does have online capabilities so you can go out and test your game against your friends or other people who want to take you on.

I really found this game a great deal of fun, and make it a must have for the gamer who loves sports games. Lace up those shoes and grab your racket, it is time to play.
