Ready, Aim, Shoot!
Now as I have said before this is your typical run & gun shooter. You appear to control 3 characters but in reality you only control one, the main character Roman. His sidekicks, Jonsey and Q you pseudo-control by issuing them basic orders such as Defend Me, Defend the Area and Return to Me. You do have a 4th sidekick, Rexus, who is basically the comic relief and the whole reason for what you are doing - blowing everything up - and there is a lot of stuff to blow up!
Good Day Little Fishy
Now the weapons in this game are quite a good mix. You have your bog standard single shot rifle, which has a medium range; a submachine gun for when clearing enemies quickly is a must; then you have your sniper rifle, which has a long range and an extended zoom (you can zoom in with any weapon using a button press but this zooms in a lot further); then comes some of the more "exotic" weaponry and this is where the fun really begins. You get to play with such things as the Personal Mortar Launcher, which for some bizarre reason looks like a tuba; the Land Shark gun is my personal favourite. With this gun you launch a shark at your enemy. I don't mean a shark shoots out the gun, sails thru the air and hits the enemy, oh no. It 'swims' underground and pops out of the ground like Jaws eating the enemy, and then a few more for good measure. Watching the fin as it moves towards the enemy brought a smile to my face knowing what was going to happen to the poor suckers.
The Farce is strong with this one...
Now this game has no qualms about saying where it's roots lie. Firmly with tongue in cheek, it takes the mickey out of lots of films, especially in the cut scenes. DO NOT skip them for the sake of getting to the gameplay, as some of them are classics. The game itself has nice film touches as well, such as houses that look like the ones in Star Wars. The heads of fallen vehicles that look suspiciously like snow speeders. There are many more but I'll leave you to find them rather than spoil the game.
Graphically the game is good, doing what it needs to do very well. It isn't up to the standards of modern day FPS but they are still good. Sound is well-designed and not annoying like some games. The only complaint I have is the fact I couldn't configure the controls so that I could use a dual analogue stick joypad. But that is a minor gripe as the keyboard/mouse controls work really well.
Overall all I can say is if this game can make me want to play this type of game, then 'nuff said.
